Nehemiah 6:8-9, 15-16 (Amplified Bible, The Message)
I replied to him, No such things as you say have been done; you are inventing them out of your own heart and mind. For they all wanted to frighten us and intimidate us into quitting. They thought “Their hands will be so weak that the work will not be done. They will give us and they will never finish it"
God, now strengthen my hands!
The wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of Elul. It had taken fifty-two days. When all our enemies heard the news and all the surrounding nations saw it, our enemies totally lost their nerve. They feared and fell far in their own esteem, for they saw that this work was done by our God.
Here we see that the protective wall around Jerusalem is finally finished. Nehemiah and the Israelites had a monumental task before them. The first thing they had to overcome was the “bondage mentality”. These men and women had been set free, yet in their thinking, they were still captives, still slaves. Nehemiah came with the message the king only wished them good and has provided everything they need to succeed in rebuilding the wall around the city to protect the people and to protect the Temple of God.
