Nehemiah 13:2 (The New Living Translation)

 

On that same day, as the Book of Moses was being read to the people, the passage was found that said no Ammonite or Moabite should ever be permitted to enter the assembly of God, for they had not provided the Israelites with food and water in the wilderness. Instead, they hired Balaam to curse them, yet our God turned the curse into a blessing.

 

 

We are nearing the end of Nehemiah.  In Chapters 11 and 12, we find a roll-call of sorts and an inventory of all the people who worked together to get the Temple back in working order and started the city of Jerusalem back in the direction of being a thriving place where the Presence of God dwelt among His own.  There are lists of those giving thanks as they dedicated the city.  They appointed singers to lead the people in worship and to offer continuous praise to God for all He had done in the past, all He was doing in the present and all He will do in the future.  They dedicated the wall, they dedicated themselves, they got back to the basics of who they were in God.  The read the Word and read the Word and read the Word.  It was as if they could not get enough.
